Dwight howard
You know, it's really easy to be mad at Dwight Howard right now. The season was full of so much expectations, hopes and dreams.
It was a slap to our faces when the Lakers stumbled out the gate and quickly became a laughing stock.
Then Mike Brown got fired and you knew things were getting weird. Then Dr. Jerry Buss passed away. Then Kobe tears his Achilles.
We had a terrible season full of stories that could have filled a day-time drama. I get it. But let us fast forward to D-Day. The day Dwight Howard left Los Angeles Lakers to pursue a championship with the Houston Rockets.
In all seriousness, I agree with this man. I will put it out there right now. He only wanted what we all wanted as Laker fans. He wanted Phil Jackson to come back as a coach when the opportunity was there.
Jim Buss didn't listen.
Howard was growing frustrated at D'antoni's system.
Jim Buss didn't listen.
Howard wanted a clear plan on what was Kobe's future with the Lakers. And Kobe went on to say that he was going to spend an additional 3-4 more years in the NBA.
I love Kobe and all he's done for the franchise, but it's getting to the point where his arrogance is driving me a little crazy. He went on record to say he WON'T take a pay cut in order to help the franchise.
We all knew Howard was going to be the face of the franchise but he needed to know when Kobe would relinquish his grip on the team.
So that brings me to this: I agree with Howard. I know Kobe is great and a future hall-of-famer and the man has the spirit and heart of a champion. But i have to take it with a grain of salt. Kobe is delusional and cost us Dwight Howard, who will go on to be amazing in Houston.
Now what are we stuck with? Kobe and Nash. Gasoft. Metta might be leaving.
With Howard gone, everyone is saying that this upcoming season is done. Lakers will rebuild, and I know they will.... but the general feeling is that 2013-2014 season will not be a good one.
Yes Dwight's stats were pretty dismal, but the man was fighting off injury.
I was a real fan actually hoping he would stay. Yes I was mad that there was a huge effort to try and FORCE him to stay. But I accepted his decision. Too many people kept saying that he should leave... which is pretty dumb to begin with.
I think people coped with it by knowing he was leaving and saving face so we 'looked' like we wanted him gone. When he came, we rolled out the red carpet and now here we were looking like damn fools giving him the bird?
I want to wish Dwight Howard luck on the Rockets. The eyes of the world are on him... NOT Harden.... to make it happen.
Lakers will be back, but we will do so without the help of Dwight Howard.
